Simple Present Tense Rules with Examples
In Simple Present Tense simple actions are done in the present period with no definite time. That’s the reason that it is also known as Present IndefiniteTense.
The simple present tense is used to describe actions that are habitual, universal truths, or facts.
For example
He goes for a morning walk daily. (Habitual Action)
The Earth revolves around the Sun. (Universal Truth)
Water boils at 100⁰ C. (Scientific Fact)
Here are the basic rules for forming and using the simple present tense, along with examples.
We will take the examples in three forms of sentences.
Positive Form
In this tense, sentences in the Positive form take base form of the verb after the subject like I, we, you, they or plural nouns.
Sentence Structure
Subject + verb + object
I read books.
We read books.
They read books.
You read books.
With he, she, it or singular nouns s/es is added to the verb.
S + verb + s/es
He reads books.
She reads books.
Sam goes to school.
Rita eats an apple.
Negative Form
Here we add do not /does not after the subject or before the base form of the verb. In this case, we remove s/es from the verb.
We use do with I, we, you, They or plural nouns. Sentence Structure
Subject + does not + verb + object
Examples
I do not read books.
We do not read books.
You do not read books.
They do not read books.
We use does not before the base form of the verb and after the singular subjects or he, she, it.

Examples
He does not read books.
She does not read books.
Sam does not read books.
Rita does not eat an apple.
Interrogative Form
To make question or Interrogative form of this Tense, do or does is placed in the beginning of the sentence. But in this case s/es added to the verb in Positive form will be removed.
Do is used with I, we, you, they or plural nouns.

Do/Does + Subject + verb + object
Do I read books?
Do we read books?
Do you read book?
Do they read books?
Does is used with singular nouns, he, she and it.
Sentence Structure
Does + Subhect + Verb + Object
Does he read books?
Does she read books?
Does Sam read books?
Does Rita eat an apple?
Just notice the subject whether it is singular or plural and use the verb or helping verb accordingly.
